In a message from the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Electronic Arts, Ken Moss announced, “A platform designed from the core to harness the massive power of cloud computing and artificial intelligence and putting it into the hands of game makers in a powerful, easy to use, one-stop experience” The project he’s describing is Project Atlas which over 1,000 EA employees are tasked to making this idea become reality.
Project Atlas, “a cloud-native future” will extend the frostbite engine’s reach into a more comprehensive program merging game development and game play aspects with a similar system to Google’s Project Stream. This would lower the bar of entry for game development significantly having a all-in-one program that can be ran on any modern computer without the need for expensive rigs. Ken stated, “…game performance is a balancing act of the demands of different resources and quality constraints” “But the cloud starts to erase those limitations.”
