In an official statement from Tencent, users of their services will now have to register their Chinese national ID’s to play video games. These measure are results of the strict Chinese laws regarding video games and limits placed on game time. Tencents enforced certain rules earlier in the year with their Mobile Game Arena of Valor limiting game time for kids under 12 with 1 hour of game play each day and a 9PM curfew. These recent efforts are the largest restrictions made by Tencent where this will affect their entire customer base of 600 million people, requiring every one of them to register their Chinese national ID in order to access their games.
