The FTC Investigates Loot Boxes

Democratic senator Maggie Hassan has requested an official investigation through the Commerce, Science, and Transportation subcommittee, in an effort to start regulating gambling for children. Hussan added, “Given the seriousness of this issue, I think it is time for the FTC to investigate these mechanisms to ensure that children are being adequately protected…” The Federal Trade Commission chairman Joe Simmons has taken the suggestion and has opened an investigation after Hassan presented the information coming back from Belgium, Japan and the Netherlands. Along with a UK based report that estimates loot boxes as a growing industry to hit $50 billion in value by 2022.
